DRY NEEDLING

Dry needline for frozen shoulder session in Christchurch

DRY NEEDLING IN CHRISTCHURCH

Dry needling releases tight, painful muscles and targeted areas of tension using very fine filament needles, easing pain, restoring movement, and helping the recovery of stubborn injuries. At Koru Therapies your treatment always includes assessment, needling, hands-on soft-tissue work and personalised exercises, because needling is part of a complete treatment approach.

WHAT DRY NEEDLING HELPS

Muscle pain and stiffness · frozen shoulder · tennis and golfer's elbow · Achilles tendonitis and tendinopathy · headaches and jaw pain (TMJ) · patellofemoral (knee) pain · rotator cuff injuries · sporting injuries, including pain and movement restrictions that massage alone hasn't shifted.

YOUR QUESTIONS, ANSWERED HONESTLY

Does it hurt? The needles are fine filament, designed to be painless. Most people describe a heavy, dull ache rather than sharp pain. Many clients describe a sense of relief as their body begins to release tension and movement feels easier.

Is it safe? Yes. Dry needling is performed using sterile single-use needles in a clean clinical environment, with proper assessment before any treatment. Treatments are provided by a practitioner certified in dry needling therapy since 2016, with over 10 years needling experience.

Will I be sore afterwards? Some people experience mild muscle soreness for 24–48 hours, similar to how your muscles feel after exercise, as your body adapts and begins the process of recovery and repair.

Is it the same as acupuncture? Both use fine needles, but they're different approaches. Dry needling is based on anatomy and musculoskeletal assessment, and targets muscles, tendons, trigger points and movement-related pain and restrictions. Acupuncture is based on traditional Chinese medicine principles and uses specific points on the body to support health and wellbeing. At Koru Therapies, dry needling is used as part of a personalised treatment approach, combined with assessment, hands-on techniques and exercises to help reduce pain, improve movement and support recovery.

Is dry needling suitable for everyone? Dry needling isn't suitable for everyone, and it's important to let us know if you take blood thinners or have certain clotting disorders. Please mention this when you book and we'll plan a safe and appropriate treatment that's right for you.

“I desperately needed therapy for my scoliosis and gluteal tendinopathy… Kirsten listened to my history and provided amazing relief through dry-needling, cupping and massage. In fact, I have booked another appointment for the last day of my holiday in NZ.”
